• Spines must be intact
• No writing or highlighting
• No torn or loose covers

Fiction

• Can be a variety of genres, including classics, but should not reflect gender, ethnic or racial stereotypes
• Children's picture books with text or wordless
• Children's novels
• Young adult novels

Nonfiction

• Must be current, published since 2000
• Written for children
• Colorful illustrations
• Clear and specific text
• Not specific to the United States, such as US History or civics

• Must be current, published since 2000
• Written for children

• Clear organization of information
• Examples: maps, atlases, children's dictionaries
